The Parasympathetic Nervous System
Our body's involuntary responses, like keeping our internal balance, are managed by the autonomic nervous system. This system has two parts: the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems.
The sympathetic system is known as the fight-or-flight response. It kicks in when we feel stressed, anxious, worried, or scared. In this state, our heart rate goes up, we sweat more, our digestion slows down, and our energy shifts to our muscles, preparing us to either fight or run away.
Many of us spend too much time in this stressful state.
On the other hand, the parasympathetic system is known as the rest-and-digest response. This state allows the body to feel relaxed, calm, and peaceful. In this state your heart rate slows down, your lungs take in more air, and your digestion works smoothly. Put simply, you feel present, calm, and at ease.
At Zen Bride, our goal is to help you activate the parasympathetic so that you can reach this relaxed state, and navigate your wedding day with a special kind of presence and flow.
